| My 10 year old boy does gymnastics at Sulver Stars. They have a trampoline and tumbling class which is dominated by boys. |
This! Ignore all that silly research about the danger of degenerative cognitive damage due to concussions.
Actually, OP, better to ignore this poster, who is obviously not too well informed. |
| OP, we're in the same boat. He does swim lessons over the summer and then otherwise just lots of playing at playgrounds. He has a little interest in contact sports, but gets injured a lot. |
| DS is a little younger (7) but we've been happy with sports classes at the rec center. He's taking a soccer class right now. Trust me, these kids are far from your top athletes but he has fun. We are hoping he can get to a pint that he could play any sport recreationally with other kids, but still years away from that. He also does swim lessons and tried tae kwan do |
| To those with sons in gymnastics, do your sons get teased? My son is exactly like OP described. |
| Cross country, wrestling and track. Swimming too. |
| how about martial arts? i understand there's a way to do that without having to beat somebody up. |
NP here, my son is in an agility class at Dynamite. And no, he doesn't get teased. There are TONS of boys in those classes, so many in my DD's class that she finally noticed she was the only girl. And my DS is like OP's son too. With the popularity of American Ninja Warrior, I think that kids who can do gymnastics/parkour/tumbling/trampoline are now considered pretty cool. |
| Kayaking! |
I believe they work primarily with children who have intellectual and/or emotional challenges. |
That would be incorrect. "SPORTS PLUS programs are designed for children whose capabilities fit between existing mainstream sports programs and adaptive sports programs." They are an inclusive program and can accommodate kids who have ASD, ADHD or other disability. |
whoa now, calm down. ASD, ADHD are in the intellectual and emotional challenges categories. I know because my DS has ADHD with some LDs and has participated in Sports Plus programs. The vast majority of the kids I've seen in the programs were obviously (at least to me) not neuro-typcial. I am sure children without challenges are welcome to participate but I'm not sure this is what OP is talking about with her non-athltic DS. Or maybe she is..... |
Football is redneck/ghetto |
| My son plays piano. It's actually quite a workout. |
Tell that to all the Landon and G'Prep boys I see practicing on the football field. I guess redneck/ghetto is money blind! |
