Starting to freak about sending dd to DCPS

So set us straight. What are some facts about the schools you were involved with? You don't have to say which your kids attend and which you worked at, but you could name the schools and provide some perspective.

oyster is fine...no worries till 6th grade...then you need to really look at how the middle school has turned out. It graduates its first 8th grade this year, but most of those kids arrived in 7th...not a true picture until 2011's 8th grade class

It is definitely in a transitional period, with some kids choosing Deal, but it is only a short way into the process, the principal is responsive and competent, and by the time OP's daughter is in 6th, and Rhee's kids have gone through there, it'll be a different ballgame.

Also, Deal is available to these kids.

Also, saving saving $180k for k-5 education, even if she chooses private for 6th, is no small consideration. That would basically cover college savings in a 529 account.
