Well, if it is a special occasion for the child, there are tons of restaurants. If it isn't, I would suggest a babysitter. |
| Honestly, if you go early, the Tabard Inn is pretty good for kids. The dining room is sort of naturally noisy because of the low ceilings, so kid noise, assuming it's not excessive, doesn't really stand out, and the staff IME is really understanding. (They do have high chairs.) |

1789 isn't that nice a place - basically a faux chic rstaurant for out of town Gtown parents to bring their kids.
I still probably wouldn't take a kid under 7 or 8 there, but it is still a Clydes. |
The babysitter's? |
Sounds like a discrimination lawsuit waiting to happen. |
Don't believe everything you read and even believe less on DCUM. https://reservations.theinnatlittlewashington.com/webres/webres.asp#Top True 1789 does not open until 6 but Open Table for some odd reason shows 4pm, but when you chose that selection it simply tells you there are no reservations at that time and the earliest is 6pm. |
| How about a sitter?? |
This. when we had a one year old (and relatively well behaved) our fave place was a nice, somewhat casual waterfront place. Folks did not expect quiet there (at any hour) and there were boats to look at. |
| yes. we took our one year old and it was wonderful. enjoy!! |
| Just call the restaurant and ask |
That link was for their rooms, not the dining room. But their website does not mention that children cannot be in the restaurant. |
| It's not appropriate to bring children to 1789. |

I've had several "special occasion" dinners at 1789, which is expensive. And the very young, not-well-behaved kids at the next table during one of those dinners definitely made me enjoy dinner less. At $38 an entrée, I'd really rather not have a loud 3-year-old sitting 3 feet away.
I do take my 5-year-old to plenty of restaurants, but I wouldn't take her to 1789 or anything similar. |
| If they have high chairs, it's clearly appropriate to bring kids there. Our kids have been to brunch at Volt on a few occasions, Mother's day brunch and a dinner at Adour when that was around, and various steakhouses. They've also sat through, and eaten many components of the sushi tasting dinner at Sushi Taro. They are now aged 5 and nearly 3. Typically if you go to dinner as soon as a place opens around 5:00, you're probably going to be done eating by the time most other customers even arrive. I don't think too many proposal dinners take place at 6:00. |
