is grey paint going to stop being "in" in the next couple of years?

OP here. Greys look great in magazine and blog photos because they're showcased against a lot of white (white trim, white bookshelves, etc.) in uncluttered spaces. Grey feels cold and heavy to me, though, and I don't think it works well with our existing furniture and a more kid-friendly vibe. We'll see if the 2015 paint "forcast" has any changes, as someone suggested.

It is okay to pick a color which is not an "in" color. Select another neutral which works -- I don't think the Grey Paint Police is going to show up and mark a big red X on your door because you decided to go with your own style/tastes.

I vote for this.

OP here. What about Manchester Tan?

We have white now, and it's a little too boring and really shows toddler messes.

We just bought a house and they repainted the walls white before putting it on the market. I definitely prefer this. We will repaint gradually when we have the time/money, but until then it will go with anything.

I saw SO many houses that were painted yellow. Yellow is not a neutral, people!

Pick what you like.

Definitely pick what you like. Grey has been "in" for the past few years so I suspect its life cycle is almost over. I agree that it isn't really a neutral so not a great all over the house color (we have owl gray in our master and love it though). I also wouldn't do yellow, I've spent the past 8 years trying to erase all the yellow paint in our house, I prefer cool colors.

We're planning to sell in 2 years, and I would like something other than grey. I was chatting with a relator, and she said she strongly recommends sellers to do grey or possibly light blue and to definitely not do light beige or off white.

She said grey is here to stay.
I want grey to go away.
Design mavens, what do you say? (apologies to Sandra Boyton)

I have seen an awful lot of gray interiors -- many make the rooms look small and dark and gee, look better on a battle ship than my (prospective) house. I'd ding the gray and stick with a very light off white -- like BM's Linen white. Too many gray interiors tell me these sellers pay attention to their agents but not necessarily the market. Keep in mind there is a reason why the WH keeps getting painted white. It is not because the color is on sale.

Oh...one more thing, paint the walls something that will blend with the wall to wall, if you have that. What not to do: gray walls and brown carpet. Yuck!

I seriously HATE yellow. I'd prefer any color but yellow.

My bathroom is painted piss yellow. We joke that if red in dining rooms is supposed to make you eat, yellow in bathrooms is to make you pee. Such a bad color.

What don't you paint it the way YOU like it.
Paint is cheap and life is short.

Crispy white. Let the furniture and decor add the color.

To be fair, there's nothing that's going to look good with brown wall-wall carpet!

I hate gray and can't wait for it to be over.

But, really love yellow, which others can't stand. I would paint it a neutral color or even white. Check out Better Homes and Gardens--they tend to recommend different colors.
