How old are your kids? For our 2 yo twins, they are NOT as anxious as we are to get where are going especially when the trip is more than 5 hours. They don't understand and they are bored and want to get down and run around for a while. I think this is much more normal than your children who are anxious enough to get where they are going that they don't want to get out of the seat. That's not normal toddler behavior.

I am the one who wrote the above you quoted. My kids have been traveling continuously since they were both infants. Trips have ranged from 7 - 16 hours. We go to the beach multiple times a year (7 hours) and we have been to Orlando and drove to Chicago (14 up, 16 back). That was actually THE best trip. We watched the sights out the window, talked about what we saw, when we stopped, we got gas, hit the bathroom and grabbed something to eat and back out we went. The kids never complained, never watched a video on that trip, slept parts of the way. It was great. Just dont get why every stop has to be prolonged to 30 minutes. My kids are as normal as they come. To each his own

Yes, I'm sure your small children would cry with disappointment if you stopped
at a playground en route.

No, because we dont stop at places that HAVE a playground. DUH. Seriously, they cant get upset if they dont see something they cant go to. LOL

It is definitely not normal toddler behavior to drive 16 hours with only very short stops to use the bathroom. That is abnormal for sure. We stop at a McDonald's for lunch with a play area. Those are easy to find in the McDonald's locator. We do stay for a little while like 30-40 minutes while they play. The kids don't usually eat though just play.

Why do you keep insisting it is not "normal toddler behavior?" We do not allow our children to dictate how we run our lives. We make the decisions not them. We choose not to stretch out the trips and the kids are used to it. My kids are quite normal. Again, to each his own.

This is OP
I think some toddlers are capable of driving long distances without a break but I don't think that is the norm for most small children. ( Not that your kids arent normal PP, just a different wording)
Mine might go 5-6 hours in the car without more than a 5 min break but I want a plan in case she doesn't. I would rather stop and have a happy kid than listen to her crying and be upset because she's strapped into a carseat for a long time.

Op again, sorry I hit submit to soon. Thanks for all the suggestions, Im gonna check out the site where you loop up parks/playground by towns. If any are only 5-10 mins from the highway we may do that.
