Growing broccoli this fall?

I have grown broccoli. It is kind of an annoying crop because you get just one head of broccoli per plant. That's it. You eat it and you're done. Cucumbers, tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, lettuce, keep on growing.

In addition, unlike tomatoes, store-bought broccoli tastes fine, so it makes it even less worth it, IMO.

Are the side shoots and outer leaves inedible? Any big problems with bugs in this area?
