Mom w/possible learning disability?

Employment lawyer here.

I have never heard of learning disabilities impacting life insurance. I don't think LDs impact life span or mortality or risk taking -- which is what raises life insurance rates. However, you might want to talk to a financial planner.

As for accommodations at work, yes, you would be entitled to accommodations if (in simple terms) you are qualified to do your job but need accommodations because of your learning disabilities. These could include having more time, having a special layout to your office, having your office in a less distractable place, having a special keyboard, having a particular schedule. It's really hard to say because LDs is a very broad term.

I think that if you have struggled with your writing despite being organized, focused, highly intelligent, and taking numerous writing courses, you might look into this.

OP, you did not say what your job duties are or maybe I could not discern from your original post except for the writing part. And, would you be able to perform the essential functions of the job with the accommodations, some examples of accommodations were provided by the employment lawyer? That is key. If you cannot perform the essential functions, even with accommodations, that may pose problems for you. I am a lawyer and work in-house and when HR receives recommendations from an employee's physician about work accommodations, there is an analysis that is conducted to determine if the employee can perform the essential functions of the job with the recommended accommodations. If he or she cannot, then it becomes an issue about whether the employee can still do the job they were hired to do and whether it creates a financial burden or hardship for the company to place the employee in another position at the same rate of pay.

ADD may increase life insurance rate. At least it is an item they ask for. ADD has an increased risk for accidents etc.
