Freaked out: splinters from treated wood

Anonymous
The issue is the two fold. Old treated wood had arsenic in it. Further any wood left in skin won’t break down so must be removed

Call pediatrician. They may want to give him a Tetanus shot.

A kid would have a current tetanus shot.

Modern treated wood (since 2009) is far less toxic. They use ACQ (alkaline copper something) instead of CCA (chromated copper arsenic) now. Surface splinters even less of an issue having been exposed to the weather and the chemicals leach out.

Ichthammol is THE BEST!!!! It is a little miracle in a tube.

about 10 years ago I posted on DCUM about the 3K splinter.

Everyone says don't worry, it will work its way out. I have a different experience. My son got a splinter in the web between his thumb and forefinger. We think it was from daycare that had a wooden play structure.

We saw the dr who said - let's watch it, it should work its way out. Guess what - it didn't. Next step - go see pediatric surgeon to cut out the encapsulated foreign body.
