Is costume jewellery tacky

Anonymous
I wear costume most of the time because it's fun and I lose earrings. The good stuff is in the safe and comes out only for nice occasions.

NP here. "Jewellery" is the British spelling

This is correct. Perfectly acceptable.

I used to only wear "real" jewelry. And I've only lost two earrings since I got my ears pierced in 1985.

But costume jewelry can bring a basic outfit up a level.

Personally I find that a lot of what is currently available in costume jewelry, like the bubble necklaces, look ridiculous on me. They look great on fashion blogs, but IRL they look too big. The scale photographs well, but is overwhelming in real life.

The wealthiest women in the world wear costume jewelry, especially on travel. I stopped wearing my real engagement ring years ago and I wear a $100 Nordstrom one instead. I get a ton of compliments!

I travel way too much to wear my real jewelry

I am clutching my pearls at the thought of this.

I also recently bought some, finally. It definitely is trendy. But I don't buy ones that are all fake diamond-y - those remind me of fake prom type jewelry for the most part. I like using it for a pop of color, as mentioned with a LBD or something like that.

I wear both nice and costume jewelry. I never bother toput the nice away for special occasions because I wouldn't get to enjoy it often enough. On any given day I wear a combination of both. I am a huge fan of jewelry made by local artisans. Not sure the proper term for it, but it's a bit more unique than costume jewelry but not all that much more expensive.

I am going to buy some, I am just trying to warm up to the idea.

LOL pp here. One example I will give is I want a big pair of diamond studs (have smaller ones). But the ones I want are $10k and with a new baby I am worried about losing one, etc., so I am going to buy a nice sparkly cheap pair at Nordstrom until I get the real ones. I wont lie and say they are real, but they do look pretty!

I also have a ton of David Yurman and although there are real diamonds in there I consider some of it costume because of the semi precious stones. Its all about how you wear it IMO.

Holy crap.

I think my entire wardrobe--including jewelry, bags and shoes--would come in under 10K.
