Expectant and Postpartum Moms
One thing OP, you mention being afraid to do much more than walking in terms of exercise. Is there a good reason for that? Check with your doc but most will encourage you to carry on whatever you've been doing for as long as it feels comfortable...and trust me it won't after awhile once the belly shows up for real, so if you have the energy and the inclination (and the doctor sign-off) then go for it!
Op here....I don't know....my doc said not to do anything too aerobic or anything that would pull on my stomach muscles, so I've just been walking quickly on an incline on the treadmill. I ended up having some spotting on Monday (none since then, thank god) so she said not to do anything this week. That aside, I guess maybe I'm being over cautious? What do you do, or find that is ok? I'd like to be able to do some light weights, but am not sure if I should. (Pre-pregnancy, I did work out, but pretty minimally...just enough to keep me fit, not much more.)
I am not the PP, but I think that walking, swimming, stationary biking and yoga are safe during pregnancy.
I would not exercise if you are bleeding. Exercising is fine during pregnancy if your pregnancy is uneventful but not if you are bleeding.
13:46 here -- I've been pretty tired throughout so aside from the occasional spurt of energy leading to an elliptical machine workout, I've generally stuck with walking and a prenatal yoga class (which I've come to love). But my pregnancy has been pretty routine -- you definitely don't want to take advice from anyone on these boards over that of a doctor who knows about your specific case!
You might check in with him/her again if the spotting doesn't return and see if you can get clearance to head back to the gym. And I've enjoyed just a little bit of upper body weight-lifting, it helps mentally to know that my waistline may have disappeared, but my arm muscles don't have to! Not that they're particularly well-defined, but at least it's something. |
