Don't stay unless the director gives you some financial reason to. They have to make it worth your while. If they want you that bad, they've gotta pay. You had your reasons for wanting to leave -- "we'd rather you didn't" is not enough to make you stay.

I would stay long enough to keep a steady paycheck while actively looking for a new job. If they let you go in a few weeks/months, fine, because at that point you'll have hopefully lined something up.

Of course they don't want you to leave, it inconveniences them.

If they're not even bothering to offer a raise or perks such as "work whatever hours you want as long as the work gets done", they're just trying to keep you around until they're done with you.

Did anyone say anything to address your fear that you were on the chopping block? If not, run, don't walk, as your bosses just want you around until they can get rid of you on their terms/timetable.
