SHould I go to my boss's father's funeral?

When I go to viewings for people I don't know, I just express my sympathies and don't even go up to the casket.

When my father died 8 years ago, I was floored at the number of people who came to either or both the viewing and/or funeral. People who knew him, just my mom or my siblings or me -- trust me -- it means a lot to people when you go to a funeral. Like the pp said - you go for the living not the dead. Go if you can, it simply shows you are a kind human being.

Did he publish the info in the office, about the wheres and whens of the funeral? If so, that is basically an invitation.... that you should probably not decline.

Also it depends on the relationship with the boss.

You could just send flowers which would be nice and possibly resolve your conflict.

For Catholics, attending a wake is just as good as going to a funeral . . . I know, weird. But it's an acceptable substitute, and there's more of a chance to express sympathy directly to family members.

Order flowers for the viewing, too.

op here. almost had a sub, but she can't do tuesdays.

However, I learned that only the execs are going to the funeral. In fact, he didn't really tell us the details of the funeral, only the execs, who were the ones to tell us we could come, but that it wasn't obligatory. They know the family, the rest of us don't.

So, I ordered flowers today to be delivered tomorrow and gave my condolences to my boss. I can't afford to jeapordize my Zumba job either, and already missed a week of pay, so I will teach.

Glad you were able to work things out. I know these types of situations can be stressful.

Hey- I would def. sub for you if I knew how to Zumba...

I am sorry you are in such a pickle. I agree with the poster who suggests that you go to the viewing instead.

Go learn (it's super easy), get certified (also super easy) and then you can be my sub...I'm going to need one sooner or later...and I have no one! I don't know why there aren't any instructors in this area.
