How long to see results after starting walking a lot?

You are snarky for sure. Lost 65 pounds. Gained back 25 over a year during which teenaged son had major illness and two very serious surgeries. You don't get much exercise at the hospital and you don't get an opportunity to cook at home when you are advocating for a child in the medical community. Oh, and working almost full time with another child at home. So, shut up. I don't know why I ever try to write something encouraging for a person like OP when there is always some nasty person like you lurking.

Wouldn't it make sense that INCREASING the activity you normally do would cause more of a deficit in the calories you'd normally eat? If a person goes from walking a total of 5000 steps per day to 12000, of course it will bring a change. Just slowly.

You cannot exercise away a bad diet. This is why we have an obesity problem!

No, I really wasn't trying to be snarky so their was no need for YOUR nasty reply. Saying that something "works" when it obviously doesn't (or you wouldn't have gained back nearly half the weight you lost!) isn't exactly "encouraging," so how dare you tell me to "shut up."

I lost 73 lbs 5 years ago and have maintained it, despite other things going on in my life. It's pathetic that you use your kid's illness as your excuse for lack of self control.

You are hilarious. Have a great day and enjoy being superior to us mere mortals.

Good luck OP. Walking is my exercise of choice too.

I hit 10,000 just by walking to/from metro. I agree most people who drive don't walk 10,000 steps, but it's a pretty low bar if you live in the DC area and walk as part of your transportation mode.
