Space heaters in the office... In the summer

It's illegal

I work in a fancy LEED building...most of the senior women execs use space heaters. I am a guy so I just keep my jacket on, but the building is 67 degrees 24/7. It is stupid. But it isn't our employees fault.

It is a major crime to operate them and it will affect your insurance premium.

It's a major crime you guys!

Love them. I'd bring a sweater and at one point a blanket. COuldn't take it so I got a heater too.

I'm guessing op is a man with an office with windows. The lower level women sit internally with no windows so their spaces are even colder. And what's wrong with dressing appropriately for ninety degree heat?

The answer is not to criticize those dressed appropriately for being cold, but rather 1) men should not be wearing long sleeves, ties, suits etc in ninety degree heat and 2) the air conditioning needs to be less cold

Did you ever think that maybe this is because they have to walk/metro to work and it's hot as death outside in DC in July so they want to be dressed appropriately? I am not about to wear my winter parka to the office in the middle of the summer.

NP- this is such a lame excuse. I drive a car without AC to work (Virginia to DC) so I know what hot as death feels like. I keep a large scarf pashmina in my building (I don't have an office). I layer, wear cooler commuting shoes and bring my warmer pair with me to the office. I'm neither a man, obese (5'10/150) nor menopausal. Our building is also a green building and I do my best to support that. It is a waste of energy to run a space heater.

We are a green workplace. Of course, nothing I can do about it, except post here.

What do you think of people who over-air condition their office buildings to such extremely cold temperatures that many employees are forced to bundle up with blankets and use space heaters in the middle of July? I think it's environmentally wasteful, and wish it was outlawed. In my workplace, it's mostly men, menopausal women, or obese people who demand such extremely cold temperatures - and they're mostly if not exclusively really selfish and dismissive of other people's discomfort.

I think you are a talented writer.

Sorry but others can feel space heaters. You are sharing the same space. My colleague's bothers me. (S/he wants the office temperature to be 76 - 78 degrees.)

I use mine year round as well.

Wouldn't it be more environmentally friendly for the temperature to be turned up on the thermostat and men to remove their jackets? Then you'd have savings from the space heaters as well as the central air.

I always wear a sweater, have warmer shoes, and drink warm beverages at work and am still freezing most of time.

Get a space heater - it really helps.

It is currently 65 degrees in my office. I am a guy so it's not a problem, but the women on my floor mostly have their space heaters going full blast. Our maintenance people have said they can't really adjust the temperature, it's either on full blast or off. No one is supposed to have space heaters, obviously, but our property managers turn a blind eye. Terribly inefficient. And we are in a brand new building!

My office hovers around 62 degrees daily. My space heater is my only defense against hypothermia.
