Just think, fewer pesticides being used every year, people protesting pesticides and no one contracting vaccine-preventable diseases. I want to live in that alternative universe.

You are seriously deranged to long for a parallel universe where there was no Wakefield study. You are a one-trick pony, for sure
.

uhhhh... what? You do realize that study has been totally, thoroughly, and completely debunked, right?

And has probably done WAY more harm than good?

Roundup is not a pesticide (j/s)

Speaking od round up...you know what is frightening? Round up ready crops. We eat so much of that stuff. Plants are GMO to tolerate round up and are drenched in the stuff. The roundup becomes systemic in the plant. Washing is not enough.

We get our produce weekly from local farms who don't use pesticides.

pricey, yes - But at this point, what's money if you're dead or grown a third eye?

I also heard that drinking smoking, SSRIs and propecia will affect the fetus. Many things will affect a developing fetus, this doesn't mean we should stop them completely. It just means to avoid exposing a pregnant mother to those items.

Did you graduate high school or just watch the simpsons to come up with that conclusion?

Sorry it doesn't work that way and people aren't spraying round up on crops, you are an idiot

Not PP, but that is EXACTLY what "round-up ready" crops are -- GMOs that have been genetically altered so they can be directly sprayed with herbicides (in this case, round-up) and not die.

And yeah, unlike traditional pesticides or herbicides, round-up ready GMOs can't be cleaned by washing off the produce.

This article describes it a little better. That is awful! I hope that they have finally found the real link, and not just another "maybe" link to autism.

There have been a gazillion studies that purportedly show links to suspected causes. I'm not in any way questioning the findings of this particular study, but I strongly suspect the relationship is more complex than a single cause.

I feel like the very hostile PP deriding everyone on the thread must work for the pesticide industry.

That is the furthest reason of why my child has autism. They don't know... bottom line is autism is different for every child and until testing gets better they are just making educated guesses that scare people. You have more folks with autism as the diagnosis has changed over the years and it is much easier to get diagnosed and it is a necessary evil for treatment. People have always had these problems but usually they were locked away and probably died very young.

Were you always a callous entitled bitch or did you pick this up when you picked up your pesticide free food?

In 2004 the UK had a nation wide call in MMR/Autism panel, aired on the BBC, and they said then that Wakefield's claims were false. I was surprised when Wakefield's study was declared a fraud because I was already under the impression that had been years ago.

Plants you buy at Home Depot and Lowes are usually grown to be pest resistant. The downside is that the very flowers you buy to attract bees and butterflies are directly responsible for their downfall regardless of whether or not you spray.

I realize if you have a child with autism, this may be hard to take. Nobody is blaming you, OP. Our government, our corporations, our communities are all broken. It is not your fault if your pesticide exposure did in fact lead to your child's autism. But denying it when you really have no idea isn't helping anyone. Keep an open mind and high scientific standards.

I heard about this study last week, and it was very, very upsetting to me. My toddler son is having a team evaluation at CARD at Kennedy Krieger next week. I don't know whether they'll find him to be on the autism spectrum or not, and I don't know if I could have changed anything by being much more careful about what I ate during my pregnancy... but I wish I could go back in time and try.

This is why I stayed away from fruits and veggies during my pregnancies. Only ate minimal amounts of organic produce.
