pay off credit card or keep money in savings?

Normally I would say pay off the cards, but having cash can be so important. We have been in a similar situation as yours and used cash to pay off credit cards, it was a mistake. The reason is, when you need help for a SHTF situation, there wont be any credit card that will save your butt. Noone is going to hand you $18000 cash. So I say hold on to it.

You could consider paying off half your debt with money from the savings. But I would wait until the job comes in.

HOLD ON TO YOUR CASH.

Definitely dont use those cards at all ever for any reason.
