The FBI needs to be involved especially if it is between state lines. OTOH, unless there's $$$ being stolen they may put it at the bottom of their priority list unless it is open and shut.

Get all proof in order so the attorney/the FBI/whoever won't have to spend valuable time reviewing the stuff.

Also there may be a civil case at stake as well.
