Why is this contemporary not selling?

the kitchen isn't as open as people like these days.
for that price I would expect a better outdoor space- looks like all they have is a small concrete patio with no abiance

I agree that the pics need to be redone without the snow. Pics of snow in summer just scream- I have been on the market for a very long time.

The main bedroom is on the lower floor. Big no no when it comes to families with kids.

Very poorly staged. It's a contemporary that's failing to be one

I like the staging. But then I dislike contemporary and the outside is a huge turnoff. I would imagine it is priced right though. It is very pretty inside.

When we were house hunting contemporaries immediately were crossed off our list.

Center hall colonials were our top choice, followed by side hall colonials then Dutch colonials and finally traditional styled split levels (NOT split foyers)

Houses we wouldn't even look at were mid century modern, split foyers, ramblers, the ugly two story houses shaped like a box with a garage door where a window should be where you entered on the basement level.

The first griup always went under offer almost immediately, the second group always sat.

Hahaha, I think you may be right. I am a West Coast oddball and I love it. But how many architects or weirdos want to live in Oakton?

Well, I love it.

Very nice reno inside - way better than most I've seen, and I think the clean lines of the kitchen work fine - but it's still a really dated 70s house on the outside with a VERY prominent garage and just a couple of very skinny windows for light. Plus, as another PP pointed out, for an $850k house in Oakton, that's a pretty skimpy patio. I'm sure it will sell eventually since the inside is well done and not everyone dislikes contemporaries as much as most of us seem to, but $850k seems like a lot.

Another weirdo here. I really like it.

Because for that price range, I don't want to feel like I need to paint. All those white walls . . . too cold and commercial.

what might work in North Arlington, or NW DC, or in Lake Barcroft may not be as appealing to the folks who want to live in Oakton. BTW I also like it, but I'm looking to move to a condo in the city - I'm tired of the glories of Fairfax County

I love this house, I don't think I'm a weirdo, but I am too poor for it.

We are a family with kids with a lower floor master and love it. Interestingly, a lot of new homes I see, especially in the South, are built with ground level master suites.

+1

I think there are enough people out there looking for something a little different (natural light, anyone??!) that it would be snapped up if it were priced right. I just think it's too expensive at the current listing price.

Yep. Count me among those who actually like it, but are not interested in living in Oakton.
