High School Rowing Program

Holton's is the best for girls. So wonderful in terms of healthy positive competition and community. It will only get stronger.

There's a juniors team in Bladensburg as well -

TC Williams in Alexandria is among the best in the country, and just concluded an exceptional season.

Hands down, TC Williams. Don't think anything else in the area compares if you're looking for a real crew program.

Wait, what? Did you say that high schools are recruiting rowers either 1.) who are in 7th/8th grade or 2.) who are already attending high school somewhere but might be persuaded by a coach to switch high schools?

Or, are you saying college coaches recruited your kid and others who attended various high schools but all participated in this summer rowing program?

It's ambiguous.

Wilson crew offers a "learn to row" program in the fall for newcomers, including 8th graders. I believe they make announcements at Deal but the crew program at Wilson is parent run (vs a DCPS program) and any DC student can participate. so your child does not have to attend Wilson.

Here's a link to the website. You can read about the coaches and contact them.

Does Hardy participate in this program?

I don't know if any Hardy kids have been in the learn to row program in the past but they would certainly be eligible/welcomed to the team. My kid will be a junior on Wilson Crew next year and I will be sure to let the coaches know to reach out to Hardy in the fall.

Great for college applications!

There are several Alexandria community rowing programs for kids, and TC Williams has a very strong crew program.

What are you talking about? Didn't the NCS team win nationals a couple if years ago?

Walter Johnson has a strong rowing program. They've consistently sent boats to Nationals every recent year. Strong parental support and good coaches.

If you want to get recruited for college rowing -- try TBC in Georgetown. TBC is for public and private school kids. Very good program.

+1. I've seen their tent at regattas, but they didn't do all that well.

Of course, you don't need to be on a winning team to be recruited. A lot of it is about your own times.
