Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| I feel your pain, that is why I now drive. I had to get off the Metro to get sick one day (I did manage to get out of the station). I'm not a naturally motion sick person, so that's been tough. I feel like now that I know that I don't feel good on Metro, I'm anxious about it, which doesn't help the situation. I would definitely agree with taking off your coat, hat, scarf, etc; and keeping cold water and either gum or preggie pops (my saving grace) close at hand. Good luck! |

I don't drive, so not being able to take Metro for the first 5 months of my pregnancy was a nightmare to me. The stress of feeling like I would get sick on the train brought on panic attacks of feeling trapped, and that made everything worse. I couldn't walk into a station without an anxiety attack. Here's what helped me:
-Take the bus when you can. You can get off the bus quicker if you need to and the fresh air and walking helped me instantly. -Keep water and mints with you. I also had a little bottle of white flower oil from my acupuncturist that helped- a little sniff of strong wintergreen. -Seabands helped me for a few weeks, then wore off. -Definitely do not get overheated. -I stopped reading on the bus and instead started playing games on my cell phone and listening to podcasts. I hate video games, but the distraction is wonderful. Being engaged in a game lets me relax. -Also keep a snack in case the sickness is due to hunger/low blood sugar. I was sure I was never going to be able to ride Metro again, due to the panic. But I'm happy to report I'm finally back on at 6+ months. Good luck. |
