Maybe you're right that the signs could help Bowser EOTR with some voters, but Catania is showing real strength in Wards 7 and 8. The reason is that he's been there, in the neighborhoods, listening and working on problems for the past 15 years. DC voters get that and are a lot smarter than just to vote reflexively along racial lines. There's still some residual nostalgia for Barry in Ward 8, but voters are growing weary of his "stick it to the Man" shtick and the fact that he hasn't done much for his ward. |
| PP here. I agree that Catania has done a good job understanding the issues in Ward 7 and 8. I'm more concerned about the Democrats in the rest of the city who liked Fenty (and have pricked up their ears when she is criticized as being a Fenty acolyte) and/or always vote Democrat. Catania needs to remind some folks that the Democratic party in DC party has deep ugly ties. |
Good for you. |
| I'd like to stuff Marion Barry into an oversize crack pipe and light it (but not inhale). |
Wow, maybe you could use a burning cross to light the pipe. Do you normally dream of murdering your political opponents? Have you discussed such fantasies with a professional? |
I just did. |
This isn't the 50's. It's a big no-no to burn black people alive now. |
The comment referenced Barry's crack-pipe smoking days, nothing at all to do with his race. Insecure much about race in D.C., longing for the good ole days when Barry was smoking crack and in charge of Chocolate City? |
Back when people joked about putting a new slogan on the license plates: DC -- All it's cracked up to be! |
Not the PP, but still not an appropriate thing to say - and I strongly dislike Barry. Also when called on it, no need to get snarky. You said what you said and you cannot blame people for not knowing what you meant. |
Typical. A poster expresses a desire to see someone burned alive and you object to race being mentioned. BTW, I didn't actually mention race. |
| Just spent the morning campaigning for Catania and it really felt great. I approached everyone- from older African Americans to younger alternative progressive types and the reaction was a breath of fresh air. People are hungry for a change- black, white, young old, dems, indies and repubs. No one could dispute that education is the key issue for the city and that Catania has the experience, dedication and plan to transform it in the Nation's Capital. I don't know if he'll win, but I know the electorate is changing and we're fired up to help give him a heck of a run. Muriel Bowser is far from a sure thing! |

A recent article in the paper says that Barry still blames his arrest on the Man, federal government conspiracy, etc. Says he was a "prisoner of war." The guy's pathetic.
The article noted that Barry's campaign slogan the last time he ran for mayor was "He may not be perfect, but he's perfect for DC." That kinda' said it all. But fortunately today it's no longer Marion Barry's city. |
| Well, he delivered on that promise. |
