6th grade graduation dress

I think most FCPS publics have a 6th grade ceremony of some sort. Ours did.

The dress the PP posted was typical. Most girls wore nice dresses like that.

DD "graduated" from 6th grade FCPS last year. Girls wore dresses, but nothing very fancy. I wouldn't spend more than $30. Think "dress casual". Not sundresses, but nothing fancy either. We got DD's dress at Burlington. Any of the department stores would have a fine selection as well.

Very helpful! Thank you! Department stores seem the right place to go.

SF poster here. Graduation was this morning. the dresses ran the full spectrum - from super casual to gowns my DD would have worn to a wedding. One girl looked like she'd dressed as Slutty Secretary, with an over-the-knee skintight pencil skirt that was super high-waisted. All different colors.

The boys were dressed up too, and that also ran the full spectrum. Khakis and a polo to what I think of as "easter shorts with a button-down short sleeve shirt and bow tie to full on suits.

How does this help OP?

We did a summer type dress, but added a fancier cardigan with it.

Also ask the school secretary, they usually have a good sense of the type of clothes.

When DD graduated 6th grade we went to Kohls for a dress and ran into three classmates, lol. Most dresses were summer/casual at the ceremony and a few were very fancy...

Go to Brass Plum at Nordstrom, depending on your DD's size. My DD is 5 feet tall so the dresses there are starting to fit her (size XS there).
H and M?

Please raise your hand if your 6th grader would wear this to her graduation. And halter tops are a no no.

Are they wearing graduation gowns over their clothes?

And double check there is not a theme - I went to a public school and the attire was white dresses. Some went fancier than others.

I have a 6th grader in a Montgomery County school. We received guidelines that specifiec no strapless or spaghetti straps.

My DD does not like dresses. She does not actually own any. Do you think she needs to wear a dress? Could she wear trousers?

SF poster from before. My DD is a total tomboy and also doesn't like dresses either. EVERY SINGLE girl there was wearing a dress. She kept saying she didn't want to wear one, but I am glad I forced the issue. As weird as it may have felt to be wearing a dress after not having worn one in so long, she'd have felt MUCH more uncomfortable wearing pants.
