OP - Please note that the poster two above, had the good fortune to get her son into a kindergarten placement for two years. If schools would give parents more flexibility in keeping a child in kindergarten if the team recommended it more often, there would be a lot more progress for kids, especially boys, early on and probably saving for the school divisions in the long run.

It just stands to reason that for some kids, the first year of kindergarten is more for continued overall social, emotional and communication development *along with recognizing the pre-K stills are still coming along at a slower pace for whatever reason. Then the second year in the placement, the academic goals can be more focused on. I realize that for some students this would not work if in a really tight peer group, etc., but right now it is not an option for consideration in many schools, unless families have done a private placement for a year.
