Either someone has signed you up for a gift subscription (!) or perhaps you have some flying miles you need to use up or someone else does so they transferred them into magazine subscriptions.

People magazine is a popular magazine pick for these points.

They send out free issues these days to bump up their numbers, which increases ad prices. after 6 mos or so, they stop and ask if you want to renew for the low low price of X.

Redbook used to be really good, now it just sucks.

People magazine is probably the only credible celebrity magazine around, with Us Weekly running a close second.

So if you are getting People, consider it like winning the magazine lottery.

Cosmopolitan is also the Fashion/Beauty bible so if anyone gets that free, you are truly blessed.

To those that are suddenly receiving free issues of "Field & Stream,"...I offer my sincere condolences.

I'm getting Redbook, A cooking magazine and Elle just showed up today. Don't know why. Unless my dad is randomly signing me up for free mags :0

I've started getting People, too - never subscribed to it, it just started arriving. It's not a gift - or if it is, it's from some strange, anonymous benefactor who doesn't know me very well.

Better than when Family Circle started arriving out of the blue, since I don't cook and don't have kids!
