Yes, but buy online. What was going to cost me $500 at My Eye Dr cost me $110 with a quick google search. |
1. It's more expensive to replace the lenses in a pair of glasses than to buy new ones.
2. Luxotica makes almost all the "brand name" frames in the US and then charges based on the brand. 3. If you know your face measurements and PD, you can buy online for cheap (I have one $400 pair from the optician and 3 more pairs that I paid $150 for from OzealGlasses.com). 4. Unless you're a label whore, IMO designer glasses last no longer than any other brand. It's all about the materials. 5. The Lion's Club donations? Actually cost the Lion's Club money, but it's a feel good thing. Pop your lenses out and give them to your kids for dress up. Signed, someone who has worn glasses for 40 years. |
Warby Parker for glasses. Stylish (if you like hipster glasses, which I do) and cheap. |
#1 makes no sense or it depends where you are going. Everywhere I have gone have charged me the same price for replacement vs. new frames. From Costco to the $400-500 lens places. They may be charging you a surcharge for not having the template to cut them, but then you are just overpaying. I wouldn't buy online in less your doctor is willing to check them. Some are good, but often they don't do the best job cutting the lenses. If your prescription is minimal the cheap lenses are fine but for worse eyes you need at least a 1.67 or better higher index. |
I wrote the list. I wear ultra high index lenses. I've been wearing glasses purchased online for a good four years (and my script changes yearly). The ophthalmologist has never seen an issue. I ask the optician to measure my PD when I buy my contacts. |
What is PD? |
I have Kate Spade glasses not because of the name but because that was the only frame that looked good on me. |
Pupil Distance |
I can't buy mine online. I have too difficult of a prescription (very bad myopia plus ever increasing astigmatism- sigh) and none of the online stores can actually fill the prescription. Also, I have a higher optical center (different than PD) than is typical, so it really is worth it for me to purchase at a bricks and mortar store where I can get measured and fitted properly. But, if I could, I would buy online! |
Probably not since I have no idea what brand my prescription glasses are. They are tortoiseshell frames that the eye doctor helped me pick out from her selection at the office. |
I just got new glasses actually and it came down to designer vs generic brand with the two frames I liked. I decided against designer because I had no interest in running around with a huge white brand name on each side of my frame and being a living advertisement board -.- |
Yes because I wear them all the time so I need quality glasses. |
$15 target or JC Penny |
I bought Nicole Miller frames on eBay for $35. I have a simple RX. Lenses will run me about $150. |
I have a pair of Ray-Bans that were about $180 all in at the eye doctor's office. |
