Should I even bother to apply?

We already have plane tickets to fly across the county to visit family for 2 weeks at the end of July. I can work for three weeks before leaving for two. I will have internet and can work some while on our trip.

Should I even bother to apply? Are hiring people understanding that summer plans have already been made and will be flexible?

You think they'll allow you to telework? as a person new to a position?

Lmfao!

Certainly you must know - as a teacher - that summers can be maddening b/c it's catch up time. Kids are enrolling. Schedules are being created. Teachers are hired.

Don't bother.

agree

I am a teacher - certified in school admin with many years in the system. But my skills don't easily transfer over into an office setting.

The position is for a Counseling Assistant who will be responsible for record keeping for tasks related to the college counseling and application process.

FWIW,

It appears that the person currently in this position was hired right after college graduation with < 1 year of part time job experience in the financial aid and human resources of her college.

As far as my already planned summer trip, this is an annual trip I go on to relieve my mother who cares for my 90+ year old grandmother. My visit allows my mother to travel for a week and catch up on chores the second week. I certainly hope the hiring committee would have some compassion.

How does one gain office experience if places will only hire people with that experience already?

This sounds like a pretty entry level position and given it is in a school, the op has half the experience.
