Are you a fan of Freddie Mercury / Queen?

DH and I both love Queen, and our kids do, too. In addition to many of the songs mentioned above, Bicycle is a big hit in our house.

And yes, I totally agree about the way FM's sensitivity and need for approval/validation/love shines through in their music and his performances. True, his voice was amazing, but I think what truly set him apart was the way he could tap into that emotion when he performed. One of the best, for sure!

We Are the Champions was one of the anthems of my high school years.

Also loved Under Pressure.

I loved Queen. They were my second favorite real rock band (Styx was my fav), both when I was about 10. Both also are the reason I think I love musical theater so much.

Yes and yes. His amazing creativity, stylistic and vocal range, and stage presence are unmatched.

He was a gift to rock and roll. So sad that his life was short.

I remember watching a season of American Idol a few years ago, where several of them were attempting Queen. It really drove home how incredible his range was and how so few can touch it.

Seven Seas of Rhye is one of the best songs ever. Fat Bottom Girls is fantastic.

Plus, they did the soundtrack for Highlander - A Kind of Magic, Hammer to Fall, Princes of the Universe.

But, OP, why can't you share this with your DH? Is he a homophobe?

Somebody to Love has been going through my head all day, OP, so your post is timely! LOVE Queen and Freddie.

Such a talented guy. We saw We Will Rock You in London a few years ago and are seeing it here in Washington this summer. I'm so excited. And I love when my 4 year old sings FM. It's awesome.

+1. Same here. Now that I'm older, I appreciate his gifts and his genius in a way that I did not when I was younger. It's very helpful to be able to access so much performance video on YouTube.

Amen. So many of today's performers depend on auto-tune and other technological gimmicks to impress. When you recognize that, and then see and hear what F.M. could do, it makes him all the more special.

Under Pressure - Queen and David Bowie. Greatest bass riff in history.
