Fish at Costco

I would not join Costco if DH did not wear contacts, though. It's by far the cheapest place to buy throw-away contact lenses. And I buy his glasses there too, way cheaper than anywhere else.

Check out your local Costco's fish supply, if that's important to you. I'd never join Costco to buy fish, though. Much cheaper fish at Trader Joe's, and it's fine, farmed, frozen.

Are you sure that you're only looking in the fresh department? I thought that all Costco's carried the same frozen products. Anyway, I agree with the pp's that the frozen wild salmon is excellent. I buy the Morey's wild marinated salmon and my kids love it. I have even served it to company for dinner, it is so delicious. There is also the Kirkland brand wild salmon that isn't marinated. I buy lots of frozen fish there -- isn't it true that a lot of the "fresh" fish at the grocery stores is really just frozen fish defrosted? I'd rather defrost it myself.

If it is actually labelled "fresh", that means it has not been frozen. But, look closely at the label - much of what is in the "fresh case" is actually labelled "previously frozen" or "thawed for your convenience". You have to see fresh on the label for that specific fish for it to mean anything. And I agree, I would prefer to but frozen rather than "previously frozen and thawed", when you have no idea how long it has been thawed out!

My kids are also addicted to their wild salmon burgers. Makes for a very easy weeknight meal.

We love these. They are so good, convenient and not farmed. Their fish sticks are made by the same company (Trident) and are delicious as well. We supposedly buy them for DS but DH and I like them more.

I don't think so. You see this regularly at Giant but I have never seen it at Costco. And I usually halve the filets and freeze, which I wouldn't do if they had been previously frozen.

Costco membership is worth it just for the meat, fish, rotisserie chicken, paper goods and, of course, the gas.

The quality of stuff that Costco sells overall is excellent.
