Why does my husband always rip his dress shirts at the elbow?

Over and over again my husband ruins his dress shirts by somehow ripping them at the elbow. It's as though his arms are too long or his elbows are too pointy or something. He has wrecked 7 or 8 shirts in the last few months. We've tried different brands and buying bigger shirts.

What am I missing here?

Does this happen when he is very very angry? If so maybe he is the Incredible Hulk.

My husband's shirts and undershirts always thin and rip through in the same spot on his back. Apart from light scoliosis his anatomy is absolutely normal. This is very perplexing.

It happens in thicker sleeved shirts too. My husband travels a lot and he has one arm resting on the door panel, then switches to the console panel in his vehicle. You can see it as it starts to wear down from friction.

If his shirts are sized "L," "XL," etc., the sleeves are proportioned too short. He needs them individually sized (e.g., 16 neck / 35 sleeve), and he needs them longer than they are now.

I know it's cheaper for manufacturers, but S-M-L-XL dress shirts suck unless you're a clone of the fit model used.

Yep. I think this sleeves might be too tight as well?

DH has to get all of his dress shirts made by a tailor. It's not as expensive as it seems. He gets them for $35 overseas while traveling, but it's about $65 here in DC. Well worth it. DH is tall, athletic and his arms are long (even has trouble with XL sleeves). It's a mess trying to buy him dress shirts or suits off the rack.

Can you share the tailor's name? Our budget is tight but that's less than we spend at Brooks Brothers

My husband's jeans and chinos get a home near the left nut!

omg my DH has this problem!!!!! It's pretty embarrassing. His very favorite pair of jeans is a dark wash, but it's getting a hole only on one side. I need to just throw them out.

Just had a fairly new fitted Jos A. Bank shirt
rip at the elbow yesterday. I was informed
by another Banks patron they will replace.

This happens to mine too. I thought it was because his elbows get really dry and gradually wear out the fabric until it rips.

LOL.

Yes, he needs to switch to shirts with arm and neck size.

You all really have to get snarky on a thread about my husband's dress shirts? Seriously, get a life.

NP here, don't be so sensitive.

I have it too on many of my dress shirts and its always on the left elbow. The worst shirts were Charles Tywritt, probably lost easily half a dozen of them. Also happened to my Hugo Boss, Uniqlo, and Nordstrom branded dress shirts.

I know my shirts fit the way they are supposed to, but i'm not sure if its the desk corner and elbow when I am typing that causes the holes. I hate having to throw them away so I have been piling them up in a corner hoping for a solution.

I may consider doing classy elbow patches, but they don't quick have the same look as on blazers: https://www.google.com/search?q=dress+shirts+with+elbow+patches&biw=1696&bih=875&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&sqi=2&ved=0ahUKEwiRyuKZ64PSAhWETCYKHbO6BHUQ_AUIBygC

same thing happens to my husband's dress shirts, high quality, low quality, doesn't matter, always the left elbow, a straight rip right on the crease.

My shirts rip at the left elbow. My theory is because I usually button the cuff on the left sleeve but not on the right sleeve.

I have another theory. I put my shirts on one arm at a time. I'll bet you do too. The first arm is easy to get into the sleeve. The second arm is more difficult. I always put my right arm in it's sleeve first. I struggle a bit with my left arm.
