Be careful, OP. You can't know everyone's situation, so I wouldn't be gloating if I were you.

And? I'm 30 and my $1.2 million home is paid off! I win!

*Jumps up and down!* WOO HOO!

OP here- I realize that my OP was probably shameless but I'm just thrilled to have the mortgage almost paid off. Seeing a $2XK balance last month was just an awesome feeling and I just wanted to say something somewhere. BTW- For those that are stuck on the $20K per year for the last 10 years, we'd have $2M without it. I think that is pretty darn good for $220K of income.

Unless your kids attend a dirt cheap private school, I'm not really sure how you afford that on $200k a year.

Yeah, I'm not really buying this. Did your parents pay for college, too? Did they give you a down payment on your house? What does your budget look like? Having $2M in retirement accounts before 40, plus having paid for grad school yourselves, plus kids in private, plus $200K in college savings on an income of $200K? That doesn't add up. Unless it's all your husband's since he's older.

Are you from DC area? You said you live "in the country".

I'm 40 and bought in my late 20's before the housing market went crazy. By paid for grad school myself- both companies that we worked for paid it but we feel we "earned" it because we had to work FT to get the payment. My husband is 7 years older. No help with DP on house, no help with babysitting either. Sorry you don't believe it- but we've invested wisely.

Yes DC metro area but think of parts of Loudoun, Howard, Anne Arundel, Frederick County, etc.

You sure "earned" a lot just by being born to the right parents and showing up to work. Undergrad paid for , I assume?

Been there and done that. We have no mortgage, no debt what so ever. Pay cash for everything. Trade in our two cars every three years and pay the difference in cash.

Yes undergrad was paid for. Yes we were lucky that way. We've survived tons of layoffs in our industry so it wasn't that we just showed up to work though.

So long as you understand that there are plenty of people who also work hard and haven't had the same opportunities. They are no less deserving but didn't have the base you had.

Do you count your parents money in your hhi or is that separate
