Bethesda expectant mom curious about delivering at Shady Grove or Holy Cross

Delivered at Shady Grove, both L&D nurses and post-partum nurses were awesome, one of them we wanted to take her home with us, she was so great. The room was beautiful and it was very quiet even though it was almost a full house. We were very happy with our choice and will definitely return there for our (hopefully) second baby

Shady Grove. I had an extremely long and painful labor and the midwives from Midwifery Care Associates (went through 2 b/c of the length of labor) and nurses at Shady Grove were great. It was pre-renovation and was nice. I hated sharing a room but that is no longer an issue. All private new rooms and great staff. Also highly recommend Midwifery Care Associates.

I also did Holy Cross and had Dr. Richard Footer. Personally, I'm not sure what all the hype about Sibley is. Even though I live in DC, it was just as convenient to take 16th St. to Holy Cross than go through Georgetown to get to Sibley, a much older hospital.

I think all the "hype" about Sibley is that it is in an extremely wealthy neighborhood, and a few of the biggest most well-known OB practices in DC deliver there. Not that people are necessarily conscious of this bias, but I guarantee that if Sibley hospital were located in say...Trinidad....no one would even consider going there to have their baby, because truly there is nothing exceptional about this hospital other than its surroundings.

I live in Silver Spring and delivered at Holy Cross and loved it. They have a high-level NICU which Sibley does not. You get a private room. All the nurses were great. And its right off the beltway, easy in and out, which is a great convenience. The building and maternity wing are new. I would highly recommend it. I am not trying to be mean, but I kind of agree with PP that Sibley is a fine hospital but not as special as many make it out to be except for its "clientele."

15:34 again. I used OB GYN associates, which is located in the Holy Cross hospital physicians building. I liked both Dr. Novak and Dr. Kleinman. It was a friendly, efficient practice. They took me when I was 4-5 months along because of an issue with my previous provider and my insurance and I am so glad I transferred. Also, in terms of convenience factor, I work in downtown DC too, and you can shoot stright up 16th street up to Holy Cross--during rush hour about 45 minutes but if you had to go during the day maybe 25-30.

My doctor only delivers at Holy Cross. I was a little worried at first, because I would have preferred to deliver in DC, but after going on a tour of GW and a tour of Holy Cross, Holy Cross had a lot of advantages. In my experience, the rooms were large, the nurses were good, even the food was pretty good. Really no complaints.

If you are not a fan of Pitocin, I would not choose Richard Footer, at least based on my experience...On the plus side, he does provide Nice personalized attention & a nice wife/front desk woman. I assume because he is solo practitioner that he likes to up, up , up the pitocin for an (unnecessarily drug-induced) quick labor... but I will not dwell on it since lots has been written in other threads on him...

I delivered at Holy Cross on July 4th weekend. Although i had a great experience in Labor and delivery, i must say i did not have the same experience after. Some of the nurses were very short and at times rude. I had quite a few complications after delivery and if someone would have come to see me soon after i arrived i may not have had such serious complications. By the second day i needed a blood transfusion which was decided by mid-day and they did not come give it to me until 11:00 at night. They had me up all night. This all could have been done hours earlier. As a first time mom and first time in a hospital i did not know what to expect. I now know it was not the best care i should have recieved.

I had a nightmare experience with the postpartum nurses at Shady Grove.

I know an OB (personally) who used to deliver at both and she said that Holy Cross is much better than SG.
