You people make me sick sometimes. Life isn't about what you make and have. Grow up.

It means most DCUMers will pay twice as much for an address they think will impress. They do the same thing with cars and coffee.

Impress? I don't live in dupont to impress people. I live there because I lived in fairfax and wanted to fucking kill myself.

Sad that you have to live there to find your life worth living.

Good for you.

Clearly if it can't get you into an ivy it is a shit school. Pretty sure the top talent excel in life no matter what school they went to, if they even went to college.

All AP courses and 3-5 languages or bust is a must! Anything less you will be a worthless POS.

That's a leap. I was incredibly unhappy having to sit in traffic all the time and found it incredibly difficult to meet people or find fun things to do. I don't think it impresses people that I live in a small apartment and don't have a car. I would argue that people move farther out so they can afford material things to impress.

Ah. Well. I have a 10 minute commute and have tons of like minded friends with and without kids in my area. Annoying to have to drive into dc for theater but that's about it.

Our mortgage is $2200 a month, our nanny $4,000, private is $1,000, swim lessons, 4 vacations a year, it adds up. I need another $100k and then I'll be sitting pretty

We could all be just that much happier if we made a little more.

Maybe you just don't like nice things

My base is 70k. We lived in SE DC and love it. Very close to everything, especially with the improvements to 295/395.

We are overseas for now (work) but I look forward to moving back to our place in a few years, especially now that I won't have to leave the neighborhood for Whole Foods anymore.

My kids are in good schools (daughter did private for elem and now both in public). One does travel soccer and plays piano. The other dances and plays saxaphone. Both are smart and healthy. I drive a used Mazda 5 which I love. We enjoy vacations and outings to cultural activities... I put $600/month into college savings....
I just wonder, how could I not feel rich?

Good for you, but lets be honest...If you can afford a $1200 a month mortgage, you aren't poor.

I grew up poor in West Baltimore. My neighborhood was made famous by The Wire. I wore one pair of shoes all of high school. Meals were often just starches flavored with whatever cheap powdered soup mix or gravy was on sale that week. that is poor.

You are middle class. Own it.

I agree! I'm super duper middle class but when I hang out with people from nwdc or mock, it seems that everyone is so status oriented. People act like they couldn't survive on less than 100k.
