Letting your dog roam the house

Once they are housebroken.

My dog can't freely roam because he gets into everything. Even if I have him in the kitchen, he tries to eat the trash, gum, chocolate chip cookies, crayons, etc. Oh yeah, and he ate the chair rail and chewed on the kitchen chair.

I found her asleep in my knocked over hamper when I got home. Normally when I get home she cries and shakes and wants to be held. Yesterday she was excited, but not excessively like usual. I'm tempted to give her half the house while I'm gone today.

At what age or point did your decide your dog was ready for some freedom?

I think this is SOOOOOO sweet!

I feel sorry for any pets you may have. Don't get a dog that's required to stay on the kitchen tile.

Bathe your dog? I bathe my dog weekly and she never, ever smells bad. In fact, she smells so good we like to snuggle.

We found our dog to be less destructive when he was free to roam the house. When he was confined to the (basement) playroom, he chewed all sorts of things. I think we has much happier when he could see out the front windows and know what was going on in the world (immediate neighborhood).

Sufficient exercise is also a critical component to preventing misbehavior, as the dog is less likely to be bored and overly energetic. How much is enough depends on the age and temperament, of course.

We now have a dog that is partial to sleeping on down comforters and chairs and sofas with down cushions. Might have to investigate that scranimal mentioned above....

Not PP, but ~whatever~. I want to live a real and not a sanitized version of the one life I have to live.
