Disagree with a psychiatric diagnosis

Yes. Diagnoses are subjective and some doctors, in my experience, tend to put people into the area they specialize in or are most familiar with. Look at the dsmiv for yourself and see if you meet the criteria for what you think it might be. Tell the doctor you disagree and why. If they won't communicate or become defensive find someone else to help you. If you are in the Bethesda area I have someone I respect if you want a name. Good luck.

I would definitely get a second opinion. I don't understand how anyone could diagnose you after a short questionnaire anyway.

Thank you! When I come see another doctor, should I disclose that I am there for a second opinion, or should I not?

I would and I would disclose the diagnosis. Explain that you aren't sure if it's right and you would like New Doctor to confirm or rule out. If they have an idea what you want to know he/she can be more careful about ruling something in or out.

I agree you should disclose your concerns about a first diagnosis. Be open. Don't try to be clever.
