Where to buy rabbit?

Believe Springfield Butcher carries them, and they almost always have a Groupon/LivingSocial deal going.

+1

This butcher has everything. And you can put in requests and they'll get it for you.

I talked with the folks at Whole Foods. They stopped carrying rabbit, nation-wide, a few years ago, when they found out their supplier was not treating the animals to their standards (not treating them well). They stopped selling it within 24 hours, just pulled it from the shelves. They will not sell it again until they find a supplier acceptable to them. I am very impressed with Whole Foods--I know some people bash Whole Foods a lot here, but you have to admit, this makes me feel better for paying their ridiculous prices!

This made me laugh. They kill them for food. I'd say that's not treating them well.

I love that WF carries Bell and Evans chicken. It's not significantly more expensive than the Costco organic chicken, but the B&E chicken was actually treated humanely before and during slaughter, whereas the Costco organic chicken has been cited numerous times. If I'm going to eat meat, I will eat meat than has been raised and slaughtered humanely.

If Let's Meat on the Avenue doesn't have it in stock, they can probably get it for you. They are in Alexandria.

Eh. Are you a vegetarian? Because I think cows and chickens are cute too. Why should we only not eat the ones universally thought of as cute? They all deserve to be raised well before slaughter, but other than that, I don't know why people differentiate between animals ok and not ok to eat.

First I thought some kids were gonna get real Easter bunnies; how cute. When I saw it was food forum, I assumed it was The Rabbit -- the wine bottle opener. Wrong again.

NP. I clicked on this thread out of curiosity. I had pet rabbits growing up, therefore to me eating rabbit meat would be roughly like how most American omnivores feel about eating dog or cat or canary. And that's okay.

Eastern Market.

Wagshal's has whole rabbit and they will cut it up for you. Are you thinking about making the NYT recipe? We tried it and the timing was way off - took longer than written. The flavors were good though.

OP here--could have been in the NYT because I saw it in The Week magazine, which rounds up some of the more interesting news of the week.

Thank you all!
