Ideas for intro sports camps for 13 year old DD -- lacrosse, field hockey, etc. in MoCo

I can give you a list for field hockey. I can be a little obsessive with research so when my kids displayed a glimmer of interest in field hockey (my high school sport), I started researching summer camps.

Champions - Camps in Rockville http://www.championsfieldhouse.com/fhockey_events.shtm
Bullis in Potomac - http://www.bullis.org/summer-programs/athletics/field-hockey/index.aspx
Koa Sports - camp at St. Andrews in Potomac - http://www.koasports.org/programs/summer-camps/
OBGC - in Olney they have run the Mulholland field hockey camp in the past http://www.obgc.com/
Good Counsel in Olney https://www.olgchs.org/page.cfm?p=4423
If you are willing to go out to McLean, VA, Beyond Sticks is running a camp at the Potomac School in McLean - there is an open house April 19th http://www.beyondsticks.com/
I think American University has a day camp but it may start in HS

There are quite a few overnight camps for ages 10 and up. You can also do most as a day camp but price is almost the same.
Advanced Play has UMD location http://advancedplay.org/
Nike has one at McDaniels College in Westminister http://ussportscamps.com/fieldhockey
Revolution field hockey has locations at Hopkins, Catholic Univ, http://www.fhcamps.com/

Good luck.

Girsl Ice Hockey - visit MYHA.ORG! Now that's fun.

Only the private schools because they actually teach their kids sports at younger ages and they play them in middle school. Unfortunately MCPS doesn't have a budget to let kids play decent sports in middle school. Most middle schools don't even have fields. My daughter's school softball team basically played in a field of weeds. Pathetic.

Bullis has great sports camps. We did softball, basketball and field hockey last summer.

There is also a volleyball clinic at Rockville Sports Plex for beginners. But if she isn't tall for basketball, volleyball might not be good either.

I do NOT recommend KOA.

Seriously it is a lot of fun! We went to Holton-Arms championship game (my daughter is 9 but interested) and it was so much fun to watch and cheer. That said, it is an expensive sport.

Now will be the perfect time to get her started.

DD has a couple friend that play for HA. It can be expensive, figure in the early years $500 in the beginning, close to $2k for club team house, 2K+ for tier 2 travel, and 4k to 10k for tier 1 travel depending on age, per yr. This doesn't include the outside camps and individual practice time. HS probably cost around $1500 or so.... HTH
