OP,
It's possible. Do you and your parents understand how hard it is for the unemployed to find work? It can take years to land a job. I think people who have not experienced this (I have) practically criminalize folks for something they cannot control. I have no idea if your sister giving the job search her all, or what else is going on, but a deadline to achieve something that is not in her control might merit reconsideration given the job market. The economy is in a funk from which it might never recover. |

It happened to me three times...First job out of grad school...Interview went well. They called me at the friends house where I was staying for the night. They actually tracked me down....This was before cell phones
Second time, I had been working as a sub to a major company. Our contract was ending...I sent an email to the branch manager....was offered a position before the interview. Final time, the program I was on imploded after a 20 year run (I was on it for 8 years). Interviewed with someone I had worked with before...he had me talk to other people. I had the offer before I got back to my other offer. Started the next day too. In all cases, I knew the people I was talking to. |

OP here. My parents are well beyond retirement age but continue to work in order to support my sister. She has lied and manipulated them multiple times in the past to get money and things from them. Sorry, but my parents should be enjoying their retirement rather than being taken advantage of by my sister.
The fact that they even gave her an ultimatum is good because it is the first time they've taken a stance with her. I just don't want her to lie again and take advantage of them. Call me a bitch, whatever. My sister has said far worse things to me. And thank you to the helpful PPs. It appears more common than I thought so I will give her the benefit of a doubt for the time being. |

Size of the firm matters. A small firm is more likely I think.
Our firm makes offers same day. Its only 1 set of interviews (although its 4 interviews in 1 day). If you pass, you pass and you usually hear that same day at 5pm after the consensus discussion at 3pm. Its possible, albeit unlikely. If she has a history of lying about stuff, I'd probably assume she was lying too. |
| Possible, depending on the field and candidate pool. I got one offer right after the interview, before they walked me out. Another same day, in email. The second company is still advertising the position, for 4 months by now. |

OP,
Thanks for giving a fuller picture. It sounds like an ultimatum is a good thing in this instance. I hope for your parents' sake and yours that she got the job. |
| I interviewed for 3 positions at the same company in one day. I got offers from all of them walking out the door. I called back in the morning to accept one. I've been at that job for 8 months. On Tuesday there will be interviews for an additional person to my position and we expect them to start on Friday. So, yes it can happen. |
