Transportation from Loudoun to TJ

Anonymous
OP here. Thanks for the responses. It sounds like AOS is a good program, and maybe even a better option; we'll look into it further.

Loudoun provides bus transportation to TJ. They also have an afterschool activity bus for the TJ kids. Most kids sleep or study/do work on the bus ride. If Loudoun closes due to weather, the bus will not run and you will have to drive/pick-up your student (if Fairfax/TJ is open).

It was a pretty long ride for my son and he is coming from PWC. Hated having to deal with the 95 traffic when PWC was closed and Fairfax open. Of course, with the new Superintendent, it seems Fairfax is closing much more often than before.

I live in Loudoun and have two kids attending TJ. They are doing as well as other TJ students from Fairfax if not better. There are 50 to 70 kids from Loudoun each year accepted to TJ. There are about 200 to 250 Loudoun students attending TJ each year (from Freshman to Senior). There are multiple buses from Loudoun to TJ each day. Most of students who have problem with their school work because they lack of time management, not the commuting distance.

Still seems like an overly grueling schedule for teenagers. Do your kids have a lot of afterschool activities, sports involvement?

Yes, they have many after school activities such as volunteer, clubs, sports(Fall, Winter, and Spring), and music. Loudoun county is also provided after school activities bus to take students back to Loudoun. This after school activities bus leaves TJ at 6:00pm each day besides the regular school buses leave at 4:00PM.

why is it so important to go to TJ?

It's not. Though some DCUM-ers would have you believe otherwise.

My son did not apply to TJ -- mostly because as a family we thought he would lose too much of his life to transportation. Not worth it.

What time do they leave the house in the morning and what time do they get home at night?

The last bus leaves from Stone Bridge HS at 7:00AM and the activities bus return to Stone Bridge HS at about 7:00PM if no game.

My kid could not physically handle that. Time management would not be the issue.

+1

My 8th grader has a tough time with the current 6:30 am to 4:30 pm late bus days in FCPS.

Everyone is difference. No two students is alike. People asked question in this website. I answered them. Make your own decision for your kid(s) and move on with you lives.

And that is exactly what the previous posters are doing. Thank you for your concern and for respecting their decisions for their kids.
