Me too. It's the kind of movie you stop on any time you are channel surfing and it's on.

When Harrison Ford changes his shirt in the office?

An almost unrecognizable Alec Baldwin?

The Staten Island wedding?

EVERYONE's hair?

Awesome. Let the river run.

What do you mean by this?

How was it stark?

The word I usually think of when I first think of that movie is "chilly." It follows prostitutes through their day. The camera has a lot of steady, non-moving shots. The lighting is sort of white and cold. There isn't a lot of romanticism or fun or anything in it. These are women who are working a difficult, customer service job. It's very dispassionate about the women and about the johns. It's sort of like watching someone do telephone customer service all day.
I saw it. It was a good film but it was depressing. It showed these folks as sex workers and not as some lurid romanticized or pornographic fantasy of prostitutes -- just like pp said.

"What's new and different?"

I found it very depressing, but then I read a review that said it had about as much in common with the lives of actual sex workers as "Leave It to Beaver" had to do with the life of Americans families. Even more depressed after that.

The Sigourney Weaver character totally turned me off on Wellesley when I was thinking of colleges.

Joan Cusak was fantastic.

Me too! One of my favorite movies of all time.

Was just talking to hubby about having a fire in my belly (wrt a work issue), and thought instantly of this movie!
