If this is your first time applying, might be worth reading older threads about waitlist, there seems to be very very little movement, and dozens if not hundreds on waitlists. Seems like the schools like a free option (Just in case it turns out we need someone).
Example post: I'm with 13:05 on the sham wait lists. If you aren't "in the know" about how these things work in DC (say, you just moved here and aren't obsessing on this board) then you might think you actually have a chance. As parents, we talk to our children early on to prepare them for what is ahead. If you are in limbo (or think you are b/c of a wait list), it's harder to start preparing your child. (Well, Johnny, we don't know about School X yet.) Sending rejection letters is the responsible thing to do. Then the parents could simply tell the child that school X isn't an option, they just had too many kids this year and not enough spaces but School Y is perfect and has a cubby with your name on it, waiting for you). So these soft rejections are affecting the kids themselves, because it has an impact on how we are parenting (in terms of preparing our child for what will come in the fall). In our case we have made a decision and aren't paying attention to the bogus wait lists (and we are on three). We've taken "Johnny" to his new school to look around and play on the playground, we talk about it all the time, look at it on the computer, etc. - whatever we can do so that he feels comfortable when the time comes to actually start there. So, if there are school administrators out there reading these threads: Think of the impact of the soft rejection on the kids! I know someone wh got off the wait list for K last year.
Let me also explain the comment about teacher ratio and class size. There are 24 kids with two full teachers. The class gets divided into two groups and goes out to different subjects. Whe that happens, 12 kids stay behind with the two teachers, which means that each teacher works with six kids. Then the first group comes back and they switch. The absolute class size is not that small (although I found 24 to be the private school average) but the actual learning frequently takes place in very small groups. |

If anyone has heard from them and been offered a spot off the wait list, please reply and put some of us out of our misery. I know many posters have said we should just put it behind us and that there is little to no movement, but there are some of us (clearly like me) that can't let it go.
If you have heard, you don't even have to say which grade. Knowing anyone has been notified will let me move on. |
| I know of someone off WL for K this year. |
Why? |
Thank you. That helps a lot since my DD was on the K waitlist. If they have already contacted families to fill any open slots, I really can let go of this hope. Sincerely - thanks. |
