Freaked out! Asbestos found in my furnace room!!

Getting rid of the asbestos is the big deal. Right now, you have pipes wrapped in asbestos - very common insulation back when... the asbestos is contained and not an issue. When you go to remove it, yes, that is when the men is white astronaut suits come in...

You can get a white suit at home depot and a respirator mask. Plastic the walls and ceilings, with taping everything shut, pull it down, put it in trash bags, pitch the white suit and mop/shop vac hepa filter everything and then trash that too. That is all the paid people do.

just use soapy water and a spray bottle on it before removing to avoid any release into the air. It's not rocket science.

What in the world is contaminated asbestos? The issue isn't contamination, it is whether it is disturbed or moved.

Anonymous wrote:OP again. So, what do you all recommend I do? I want to remove it, but am afraid to do it myself. However, I don't think I should have to pay 2k-4k to have it removed. We're talking about a utility room that one person can barely fit in. Any companies that anyone could recommend?

Who said it would be $2K-$4K?

Call Southern Insulation in Hyattsville. It won't be anywhere near that much.

OP here. The report came back positive for asbestos, and apparently a significant amount. Bringing in air specialist to see if its in the air. Freaked out once again.

Do not remove it yourself

Make sure you make clear to the air specialist that you would not be hiring him for any removal or monitoring purposes.

The reason for this is that you do not want him to provide you with a dishonest opinion to get further business

OP here. thanks for the feedback. A separate air quality came yesterday, & thankfully, NO asbestos in the air anywhere in the house. Now, just have to have it removed tomorrow. $$$$$$
