| Does the NCRC wait list ever really move? |
Absolutely. A few years back, we were offered a spot of the waitlist. We declined as we were already committed to our first choice school. But I can tell you first hand that it is real. It might have been sometime in April or May, though. If you're really committed, you should send a note and tell them. |
| We got waitlisted at all four schools we applied to. I am pretty upset about it, especially when it comes to NCRC, since our playdate there went amazingly well. We are new in town and I can't shake off the feeling that our lack of connections may have played a big role. As many other parents--I'm sure!--we put so much effort into the admission process. We took time off and hired babysitters to go to the open houses; did our research; asked informed questions; we followed up with thank you notes every step of the way; and we made a real effort to remain objective, honest and fair (for example, we expressed enthusiasm to several schools but we only indicated that a school was our first choice to the school that actually would have been our first choice). Not that any of this matters, obviously, but I'm left feeling powerless. I would love to hear from current families. How did you get in? I guess it would help to know if we were just unlucky (lots of siblings, gender considerations etc.), or if the process is not as democratic as they make it appear. Thanks for reading! |
| I hear you, 9:08. I spent many hours on this process for three schools, and we're shut out. It seems pretty crazy not to get into PRESCHOOL after all that effort and genuine enthusiasm. We aren't connected at all, and I wonder if that hurt our chances. I'm pretty upset right now, too. |
| Your child is special--but application proceses rely on a lot of other factors beyond a good playdate. The NCRC application made me laugh with its dropdown menu for common titles for parents. Beyond the Mr./Ms. Mrs, they included Ambassador, Senator, Representative etc.). Just remember there are a lot of other pre-schools that aren't so exclusive but are perfectly warm places that your child will enjoy. |
| Actually, in NWDC, there aren't that many preschools, particularly part-time. |
It always seemed to me that we have a lot of options in DC, even for part-time. St. Paul's, St. Columba's, St. John's, Gan HaYeled, Washington Hebrew, CCPC, CCBC, Franklin Montesorri etc. There's also the cooperative preschool route as well, including the ones from DPR. And all the free options DCPS and charters that start at age 3 are "part-time" in that their core days are 8:30-3:30ish (shorter than daycare, if you don't include the aftecare). |
| To 9:08 and 9:26 don't despair. You should call the Admissions Office and get more information about your place on the waitlist. If it's your first choice school say so explicitly. The waitlist is real and it moves. (My DC got in off the waitlist as did several other families we know.) |
| My child got off the WL at NCRC too a few years ago, as did several other friends of ours. The WL does move so if you are still interested, do let them know. NCRC is a great place. It has been a wonderful, warm experience and very down to earth. There are also many other similarly great preschools out there. Good luck to you! I hope it works out. |
| We'll be releasing a spot at NCRC as I'm sure some others will too-so definitely worth reiterating your interest I think. |
PP, What age group are you giving up? Would you please tell us why you decided to release your child's spot? Thanks! |
Bunny class. NCRC is a great school but we like another school equally that logistically works better for us. |
| My child got into NCRC and we had zero connections. We also changed schools after a year. All that glitters is not gold. |
I also never wrote a thank you note. Why would you do that? It's a school. We got into all of the schools we applied to and I never wrote a thank you note or "did any research" beyond location and curriculum. I find many of the parents on this board to be weird and intense. It isn't graduate school people! |
| We will also be releasing our spot to the beehive class |
