Moving from Seattle to DC area

Somerset/Chevy Chase West -- great public schools; fun, cohesive, intergenerational community; walk to Friendship Heights and to Bethesda Metro stops, shopping, restaurants; easy access to recreation -- Capital Crescent Trail, Somerset and Bethesda pools. Great place to bring up kids.

If public schools are important, I'd do Chevy Chase, MD or close-in Bethesda. If not, I'd live in Woodley Park, Cleveland Park, AU or Chevy Chase, DC. All those areas have what you're looking for and have lots of kids.

The DC neighborhoods mentioned also have good public schools. At least as good as Seattle public schools (former Seattlite here).

How would the public schools in DC neighborhoods (AU and Cleveland Park) compare to Seattle public schools? I'm not an OP, but we're also considering moving back from Seattle (Eastside) to DC, and we're paralyzed by the school options. Thanks for your input.

If you want Eastside type schools, the most analogous would be in Fairfax County and upper Montgomery County. Also, many of the neighborhoods will just plain remind you of the Eastside.

If you are not necessarily trying to recreate your King County life in the DC area, maybe want to do something different, then other districts / schools would work and also be good.

So, like, Bellevue WA is a lot like Rockville, Md.. Issaquah is more like Gaithersburg Md. Medina is kind of like Potomac Md. Old Redmond is similar to ... Old Leesburg, Va.
