| Speaking of diversity, what is it like there, especially for African American boys? Thanks. |

the only diversity at mater dei are the football players recruited off the maplewood football teams in hopes of pushing them to Gonzaga or Georgetown Prep.
Mater Dei's facilities are terrible - except for the $1M turf field. We toured there and its science labs looked like they were from the 1970's. It does not require a foreign language except Latin - might help you for the SAT's but wont help you in the business world. It does nothing for the Arts either - no music or art classes. Families who are in the Catholic Mafia love it - if you are not in the circle - you will probably feel isolated. |
| Very very Catholic. As lapsed Catholics, we didn't feel comfortable. |
Very few have tried it. If he's an athlete at all, it could work as he would be in the thick of things. It's a very "male" environment. Not a lot of concern over "feelings". Our boys liked MD a lot. |
I disagree. They care a lot about feelings and building boys up with faith , hard work and structure. Timeless building blocks for middle school. They go out of their way to highlight the strengths and virtues of boys who are less athletic and always remind the early bloomers that they probably won't even make their high school varsity. |

The name says it all.
Mater Dei Mother of God, what does that mean? It means God humbled himself , was born of a woman and became man. Became man for the purposes of walking amongst us to show his nature and teach the eternal truths. Ultimately he came to sacrifice himself , be tortured, die and conquer death for his friends. It is Latin . Thank God for western civilization! If you like The Lord and western civilization .... You will love Mater Dei. |
3 freshman college baketball players from Mater Dei are playing major roles at North Carolina, no. 6 Villanova and Nevada. That must have been the best middle school basketball teams in history! |
| They were 16 year old 8th graders when they are at MATER Dei. They reclassified twice. |
Dear Lord...

MD does have art and music class, so the poster is wrong.
Do people criticize the good Jewish schools in the area for being to Jewish? It is a Catholic school, so like it or leave it. The boys do say the Hail Mary every day, and go to mass once a week. The mantra that all the boys have been held back is overstated. Yes, if your son is a summer birthday, they will recommend he be held back. And there are typically a couple in each class that are from the spring, but most are either summer birthdays or fall (so right on track). And this is no different than the other boys schools in the area. The truth is that boys mature more slowly. It was astonishing comparing the boys to the girls in my DS K class. My son also absolutely loves going to school every day. There are other AA boys that haven't been recruited for sports. But yes, it is still not very diverse but improving. |
I didn't read any of that as a criticism, more like helpful information. If you want a more intense Catholic education this is the school for you, otherwise not. I don't see how that is criticism. |
You sound creepy. |

^^^ maybe to satan, osama bin laden and.... You.

slowly increasing at all grade levels - not just middle school which seemed the most in past. Boys tend to be athletic/from atheletic families - so maybe the pull. i'm not AA say can't comment directly, but socially they appear to integrate. good or bad - many boys place high value on sports / teams, so that seems to be the common ground for friendships. |
Can't tell if this is the original wing nut, or clever satire. Enjoyable either way.
