Hold back my winter bday DS in K bc he is "young"?

A March birthday is not "young" for a grade. Is that their entire basis? "Young" based on chronological age? Or maturity?

+1 from a long-time preschool teacher.

"Young" is their polite way of saying immature, not chronologically young.

OP, do not do it unless your child has a significant SN. We did, but our child is SN and needed it (for a variety of reasons not actually including maturity). This child is also not in a public school. It was the right decision for our child. Our other child has a June bday and went on time. Unless there is testing showing significant SN and the need to hold back, I would place in first grade and see how it goes. You will be surprised at the level of immaturity when they start the year and how fast it progresses throughout the school year.
