Racism in inter-racial or inter-ethnic families

White = White Anglo Saxon Protestant. Jew = Jewish, which is not a Protestant religion, and generally not Anglo Saxon.

I don't think this type of 'racism' is about hating one's race, but more about not liking the behavior of some of one's own race/experience and being hyper aware of how certain behaviors appear to others.

I see embarrassing behavior from all races at times, but the only one that is truly embarrassing to me is that of my own race, because when it's what you self-identify as, it's the most cringeworthy like 'o god this is how people see us'.


We are a mixed couple, and we see issues where we see them- all races. We are rabid people-watchers because, well, people are fascinating.

I have seen two couples where the wife is East Indian and the husband, white. The mothers seemed to do everythiing possible to keep those kids away from blacks or other Asians.

Actually some of the most racist people I know are in IR marriages. That's why I laugh when folks talk about IR marriage and children ridding the world of racism. Please. Some times (not all the time) people end up in IR marriages because they have racial issues themself.

Yes, I have seen this before with various people. That's why some people date or marry outside of their race. You may not know what that person's experiences were within their own racial group. Maybe they were mistreated or abused by their own people and they developed a disdain towards them. If you're not a part of a minority group, then you may not understand the constant pressure and tribal mentality to go against anything that your group deems as white culture. When a minority marries a white person the backlash that they receive from their group is devastating. Your peers from your minority group can't accept that you marry a white person and that you've assimilated into the majority culture. The rejection from them turns into hating them. You begin to see them as your enemies instead of your allies. You also may throw in other minorities into your hate box because you fear that they may hurt you too. Intra-racism is very real. It's a way to project your pain, insecurities, and fears onto others. Know that the person who you see behaving in this manner is hurt. Hurt people hurt other people. However, this is nothing new.
