What can parents do to improve ACPS?

Anonymous
I think we need to implement bussing based on achievement. Low-performing kids need to go to better-performing schools. This would have the impact of dispersing lower SES kids and minorities across our good schools, pulling them up instead of a school with a high concentration of poor-performing students pulling others down.

Next election, vote in a Republican mayor and majority City Council who will be far more motivated to attract retain upper middle class families in the schools and will fund schools instead of affordable housing. With any luck, they would then also be keen to get rid of the rest of the unsightly public housing in Old Town, build something they can tax that hell out of, and use that money for further improvements n the City.

Already in progress. City has rfps out for redevelopment of most of the remaining public housing sites in Old Town.

If only this were true.

But in fact, they are only redeveloping the public housing into more public housing.

The City promises to replace housing for each person whose housing they replace. So in fact, they are doing anything to change the demographics which is really what is needed.

It would be great so see someone revive this. There are a lot of parents with children below school age who would like to help rather than move:

One of the moms mentioned in that article is actually a real estate agent in Alexandria. Maybe you could reach out to her and see if the group is still active?
