Yuck! |
| Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity was suspended for 3 years after a female student from Connecticut was killed in a drunk driving incident involving 11 students from Washington and Lee this past December. I would always worry about a school that has a social life that revolves around Greek life. Nothing good comes out of this follow the sheep binge drinking culture. |

My guess is your son will be accepted and will enjoy frat life. He should not go unless he will embrace the frat scene. You don't want him to be an outliner in this area. You want him to fit in. I'm not advocating greek life, just saying that if he goes he needs go with the idea that he will try to fit in. Many students have to look the other way on another uncomfortable topic. Many of the students will hang the confederate flag in their room. They may not give it much thought - but it does more than anything else to further the red-neck image. I understand why you want to consider the school. Maybe with an acceptance to WM or UVA you will have other options to include. hope. Good luck.

| The Lee is for Robert E but I doubt you will see a lot of the stars and bars being hung on the wall. It's a great school with a terrific alumni network. |
| If you filter through the junk on this thread, there is a good description of the school. It is an excellent school that students tend to enjoy -- very Southern, tiny town, very Greek, but also top flight academics. I had always thought of it as a school for kids from the South but I think that has changed over the last decade or two, but it will be heavily Southern kids. |
