Reading Groups Mtg Frequency

This has also been our experience. It drives DH crazy, but I'm a bit more realistic. It's public school. Whether we like it or not, the job of the K/1st/2nd grade teachers is to get ALL the kids in the class to a certain reading level by the end of the year. If your kid is already at that reading level, there's not much incentive for the teacher to work with her. However, she HAS to get the other kids up to speed.

So, just be thankful your kid is reading where she should be and try to challenge her at home?

Teachers are responsible for increasing all students achievement by t least 1 year. That said, some years a child will do better than others (even when all other factors, including the teacher, remain the same.)

I strongly agree that as a parent, I still have a strong responsibility to supplement my child's education.

My first grader is a couple of grades ahead and reading groups have essentially stopped completely. It never happens.

It really has no impact though because

A) part of the reason for advancement is what we do at home
B) books even for the assigned reading level are very simple so dc isn't missing much
