2) perhaps this family has lived here in years when children were too young for school
3) by driving to the county for school and by staying at the school, they are likely going to be patronizing local businesses and paying sales tax in the county.

Get real! This isn't someone trying to cheat the county out of anything on purpose but looking out for the well being of their child. I can't imagine MoCo will kick their child out mid school year of Senior year. OP - I would love to hear what MCPS tells you....

There are DC residents attending BCC b/c they pay tuition, so it's doable but I don't think they'd let you stay for free.

Not if you are half way to your senior year. They want to keep the number of graduating students high. I would ask anonymously and then if there is a problem, I would just not tell.

Get a PO box number and change the address in school so your mail goes there. Or ask Post office to forward letters if they do that.

2. I've personally lived here for over 20 and don't have children. I happily pay property taxes for the benefit of the children of MoCo. If this child will no longer be living here, he shouldn't be able to attend school here unless his parents pay for him to do so.
3. Yeah, right. Everyone goes shopping at 7:00 am. It costs over $13,000 to educate each child here, so about $6500 per semester. You'd have to do a hell of a lot of shopping to rack up sales taxes in that amount, taxes which BTW go to the state, not to MoCo.

This IS someone trying to cheat the county. Sure her kid should be able to stay in his school. Just let her pay for it. Is that too much to ask? As for others telling her to set up a PO box, etc., wonderful! Let's help her cheat the system. Fantastic lesson for junior to learn.

Is that still true? I thought all the close in schools were overcapacity and were no longer allowing non residents to pay tuition. BCC is already 200 students over capacity and is projected to grow over the next couple of years. Our school won't even allow exchange students because there is just no room.

I have lived here for almost 40 years - I have paid Maryland and MoCo taxes for 35 years, my parents have paid Maryland and MoCo taxes for 40 and I went to public school here. I would be HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED if MCPS thought it was a good idea to deny a Senior in high school the FREE option to finish an ongoing school year at their home school with their teachers and their classmates just because their parent had to move out of the county in Feb/Mar of that particular school year. Education is also about the well being of children! Hopefully MCPS does not operate as you would.
